If you are like me, you have a closet (or closets) full of shoes. Some are brand new, some worn once or twice for special occasions, and others that are gently worn but in great condition. There is nothing wrong with them, and they are well cared for and kept clean.
Instead of letting them clutter your closet, why not sell them? You’ll clear out some space and make some money while you’re at it. You will also be helping out the environment by not throwing them away! Did you know that an average pair of man-made shoes can last hundreds or thousands of years in a landfill?
1. Nobody wants dirty, worn-out or severely damaged shoes. If there is damage, then let the potential buy know.
2. Clean the shoes with a damp warm cloth, or with a commercial shoe cleaning product. Also, spraying the inside with shoe sanitizer or an anti-bacterial spray is a good idea.
3. Replace the laces, or inserts if they are worn out. New laces are inexpensive, and they look much better. Likewise, if they are leather shoes, apply polish.
4. When listing the shoes, list any defects. Being as forthright and honest about the condition, size and materials is the best policy. Also, if they are “knock-off” shoes, please say so.
5. When shipping them, stuff tissue, cardboard or some other packing material into the shoe. This will keep them from becoming disfigured, or damaged from shipping.
6. Establish any conditions or return policy with your potential buyer.
Buying Shoes–
1. Shoe manufacturers run their sizes differently. It’s a good idea to know if brand “x” runs their sizes smaller or larger so that you can buy the proper size.
2. Ask the seller what their policy is if the shoes don’t fit, or if the condition is not as advertised.
3. If the shoes are listed with a “designer” name, verify with the seller that they are not “knock-offs”.
